Cops and Lovers

In the centenary year of D.H. Lawrence moving to Zennor, we are very pleased to announce that FEAST will be supporting a rehearsed play reading of a new play about Lawrence, “Cops and Lovers”, at The Tregenna Castle on Wednesday 14 September at 3pm.

FEAST is a programme to make great art happen across Cornwall. It aims to harness the talents and energy of Cornwall’s artists and communities, generating new opportunities for everyone to enjoy the arts. The focus is on bringing people together to share experiences as audiences or participants, and on animating local celebrations and cultural life.

With the support of the Q fund the playwright Mark Crees, who lives and works in Cornwall and has long been a Lawrence enthusiast,  has written a new play especially for this event. His play, “Cops and Lovers”, focusses on D.H. Lawrence’s important, but complicated relationship with Cornwall. We are delighted that members of the Cornish theatre group Cube, who have an enviable reputation for the quality of their work, will read and perform the play together with the playwright.  Following this, there will be an open question and answer session between the audience, the actors from Cube, Mark and Dr Jane Costin, who has published work on the significance of Cornwall to Lawrence, to enable everyone to explore new perspectives on Lawrence and the importance of his stay in Cornwall during the First World War to his subsequent life and work.

FEAST’s contribution means that we are now able to open this unique event to the general public, free of charge, to encourage the widest possible participation in this exciting event, which aims to get as many people as possible talking about the relevance of Cornwall to one of the greatest writers of the twentieth century.

Investment for FEAST comes from Arts Council England and Cornwall Council. The programme is managed by Creative Kernow.
